Course Description:
This course combines reading comprehension with the development of creative writing skills. Students will study what makes an effective story and explore the foundations of character development, world building, plot, setting, conflict, and storytelling.

Students will also examine familiar classic works and discuss how literature influences our worldviews and the stories we tell today.

Throughout the course, students will develop their own creative work with the goal of completing and presenting a final project at the end of the semester.

Course Description:
This introductory course familiarizes students with American Sign Language and Deaf culture. Students will study the history and development of American Sign Language, appropriate interaction within the Deaf community, and distinctions associated with Deaf and hard-of-hearing experiences.

Students will also research a notable Deaf or hard-of-hearing individual and prepare a written report. Students will demonstrate what they have learned through assignments, signing activities, discussions, and a presentation at the end of the semester.

Course Description:
This introductory psychology course explores basic psychological concepts, human development, behavior, and neurological functions of the brain.

Students will examine different approaches to understanding human behavior and development, including the work of psychologist Carl Rogers and his humanistic approach to psychology, personal choice, self-concept, and individual development.

Students will complete written assignments throughout the course and demonstrate their understanding through a research paper and presentation at the end of the semester.

Course Description:
Students will gather regularly to explore what it means to become a responsible, Godly leader who serves others. The course combines leadership education, character development, personal reflection, volunteering, community service, and ministry.

Students will explore questions such as:

• What qualities make an effective and Godly leader?

• What leadership skills do I currently possess?

• How can I use my abilities to serve other people?

• How many hours am I contributing to volunteering or community service each month?

• What new skills do I need to develop?

• What type of leader am I becoming?

• How can I encourage my peers toward healthy interdependence rather than dependence?

• How can leadership be demonstrated through service rather than simply authority?

Students will document their volunteer or ministry experiences and reflect upon their progress throughout the course. The goal is for students to better understand their individual strengths while developing the character, communication, responsibility, initiative, and service-mindedness necessary for effective leadership.
